Septarian (also known as Dragon Stone) is a sedimentary rock rather than a single mineral, made up mainly of yellow calcite and brown aragonite over a grey limestone base. It began as a ball of mud settling around a nucleus, often a fossil or shell, on an ancient seabed millions of years ago. As it dried and shrank, the nodule cracked into a web of angular sections, and mineral rich water later filled those cracks, creating its signature pattern.
