Yooperlite is a sodalite bearing syenite, a type of igneous rock, first identified along the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan in 2017. Under daylight it looks like an ordinary grey stone, but under ultraviolet light it glows a vivid orange, caused by sodalite within the rock that has been naturally "doped" with sulfur. The rocks themselves are thought to have formed around a billion years ago, likely originating from Ontario, Canada, and carried into Michigan by glaciers.
